Home Exercise Program Ideas
Working out at home is convenient and comfortable but you need the right tools to stay motivated.
There are many reasons to work out at home: gym memberships are expensive, working out in public can be intimidating, or the gym is not conveniently located. In these situations, a home workout can be just the ticket.
Here are some home exercise program ideas to get you started.
Use DVDs
Work out with a home exercise video. Pop in an exercise DVD whenever you have a chunk of time. Find the best time for you, write it down and post it where everyone (including you) can see it. This will let your family know how important it is to you to get active. The note will also serve as a reminder and encourage you to stay dedicated to your plan.
Get Equipment
Invest in exercise equipment such as a treadmill, exercise bike, exercise balls, small weights or resistance bands. You can find good deals on more expensive home gym equipment at thrift stores, by looking in the classifieds section or by searching online. Just make sure the equipment is in good shape and works properly.
Any sporting goods store and some retail stores will sell the balls, weights and bands. And, since they are cheaper than the larger pieces of equipment, you can invest in several of these pieces, enough to make your home exercise routine more interesting.
Walk
Walking is the easiest and cheapest home workout. Walk as a family or with your significant other. Others choose to walk in a group or with a friend to stay motivated.
Incorporate Everyday Tasks
Look at daily tasks as ways to get exercise. Instead of bending over to pick up toys or items off the floor, squat and hold the position for a few seconds before straightening back up.
Make Exercise Available
Subscribe to an exercise TV channel such as FitTV. This will encourage you to get moving every time you sit down on the couch.
