Fad Diet

A fad diet is a weight loss program that catches on quickly in popularity. This is often due to the diet's claims of substantial weight loss and image-enhancing properties. Fad diets are often appealing to the masses because of celebrity or athlete endorsement but typically pose some risk to the dieter. Many experts emphasize that diet alone will not help dieters lose weight, but that any dietary changes should be accompanied with lifelong healthy eating habits and exercise. Fad diets often strip meals of necessary nutrients and sometimes allow for foods that, while lower in fat or calories, may still be high in carbohydrates and sugar. Fad diets may help assist in rapid weight loss but are not a viable choice in the long term, as they do not promote healthy eating habits.
