Get the Basics...
  • P90x is a high-impact fitness program that recommends the use of several of its branded supplements.
  • Each supplement P90x has created for their program is a proprietary blend, so it’s impossible to find perfect alternatives for their products.
  • P90x claims that by taking their supplements and working out according to their program, you don’t even need to change your diet — although a healthy diet is always recommended.

There are several different supplements needed for the P90x program.

These include protein bars, two different mixable formulas (one for results and one for recovery), and a peak health formula capsule.

Taking the supplements in conjunction with following the P90x workout recommendations over a 90-day period will lead to excellent results.

After you’re done with P90x, sign up for an Exercise.com PRO plan to continue chasing those gains.

What Are the Different Kinds of P90x Protein Bars?

There are many different flavors of protein bars, and almost anyone can find a flavor they will like and continue to eat before or after their workout routine.

The flavors available include chocolate peanut butter, chocolate fudge, wildberry yogurt, and mocha café.

Each of the P90x protein bars has 20 total grams of protein; they help you continue to build muscle during the 90 days of the program. In addition, the protein bars are available in variety packs with several of each flavor or are sold in packs by individual flavor.

What Does the Results and Recovery Formula Shake do?

P90x recommends that, following each workout, you should consume a Results and Recovery Formula Shake. This shake can help restore your muscles quicker and prevent soreness.

While results from working out can be visible whether or not you take the shake, P90x gives your body both carbohydrates and protein and can help you get all the necessary post-workout nutrients you need.

This, in turn, allows you to recover quicker and be able to continue your workout the following day.

What Is the Peak Health Formula Supplement?

The Peak Health Formula is a separate capsule that can be taken before a workout to help you get additional vitamins and minerals into your system. It is considered a multivitamin that complements the other supplements associated with the entire P90x system.

The formula claims to contain antioxidants, minerals, and natural vitamins that can increase your strength as well as your energy.

P90x does not publicize what is in the Peak Health Formula capsule but does say that the capsules offer support for your immune system. They also claim it will increase energy, cardiovascular endurance, and memory enhancement.

Are There Alternatives for the P90x Supplements?

Yes, there are ways to purchase and utilize alternative supplements that are similar in content to what P90x provides. However, because P90x has a proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals in its products, it is impossible to duplicate the supplements.

P90x does have a premium price tag attached to it, so it may be more cost-effective to find alternatives. These supplements are not approved by the FDA.

However, P90x does claim that finding an alternative to their formulas is similar to driving a used Honda instead of a brand new Mercedes.

Both cars get you to your destination — it is up to you how you want to get there, and what you want to look like when you arrive.

The P90x recovery formula mix can be substituted for a mixture of about 1 tablespoon of protein powder and a small amount of creatine mixed into eight fluid ounces of fruit juice.

Or, an even simpler way to get proper nutrients after a workout is to consume a glass of chocolate milk.

As far as the P90x protein bars, they can be exchanged with a less expensive protein that can be found in any health food store or online. A good alternative is the Clif Builder’s Protein Bar, which can be purchased for as little as $1.33 each.

The Doctor’s brand CarbRite sugar-free bar can be consumed instead of the P90x performance bar.

Do I Have to Eat Certain Foods While Taking P90x Supplements?

There is no specific diet you have to be on while taking P90x supplements, although it is good to maintain a healthy diet rich in protein, fruits, and vegetables, such as the one suggested here:

Despite these suggestions, P90x encourages participants in their program to eat whatever they feel like eating.

The company claims that the workout program coupled with the protein bars, Results and Recovery Shakes, and Peak Health vitamin supplements is so powerful, a poor diet will not affect any results.

Do I Need Anything Besides Supplements for the P90x Program?

For best results, if you are planning on purchasing the P90x supplements you should also get the P90x set of 12 DVDs as well as the required workout equipment, such as a pull-up bar and a push-up bar.
