Its targeted training phases mean that the muscles in the body are being constantly challenged, and never get fully used to the workout. As a result, you will continue seeing progress over time.

The training cycles used in the plan are deliberately kept short. You are provided with a number of options, which means you are less likely to get bored. Resistance training, stretches, abdominal work, and martial arts are all part of this program.

Can I Lose Weight With P90X?

Definitely. Give than muscle burns more calories than fat, this is very likely. However, if weight loss is your goal, rather than muscle strengthening, you can optimize that goal. The plan can be personalized to focus on weight loss by using the Lean schedule. With this option, the participant gets more cardio exercises to focus on burning fat more effectively.

The P90X system can also help a person who is training for an endurance event. The Doubles option also adds extra cardio workouts to the plan. This plan is appropriate for people who are already in great shape who want to get lean or who are preparing for high-performance sports. You will need to commit to more workout time per week for this component.

Is There a Nutrition Component to P90X?

Along with exercises to follow in the P90X workout schedule comes with an eating plan to follow. It is divided into three phases, to correspond to the three phases of the workout plan.

  • Phase 1: The first eating phase is called the “Fat Shredder.” At the beginning of the process, the participant eats a high protein diet to jump-start weight loss.
  • Phase 2: During Phase 2, boosting energy is the focus. At this point, food choices are expanded to include more carbohydrates, as well as protein and small amounts of fat. This combination of foods works together to provide a boost of energy that will enhance performance.
  • Phase 3: The third phase of the eating plan is called the “Endurance Maximizer.” At this level, the diet revolves around a combination of complex carbohydrates and lean protein.
