Top Celebrity Fitness Trainers
Let’s put the downer stuff aside for awhile and take a look at some of the top celebrity fitness trainers: how they got where they are and what they’re doing to stay on top.
37 years old, 5’2″ tall, weighs just 117 pounds (most of which has got to be muscle), and resides in Los Angeles, California.
She’s worth about $2 million, and has been on shows like The Biggest Loser, The Doctors, and her own show, Losing It with Jillian. The woman has her own video games for Wii, including Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010. If that’s too high-tech for you, consider one of her 18 fitness DVDs to date. She co-owns the Sky Spot Spa with celebrity fitness trainer Jackie Warner–she’ll make a feature appearance later on.
@JillianMichaels on Twitter has 7,188 tweets, but she has 386,009 followers. Ms. Michaels has also written 7 books and has countless products available for sale, including a detox cleanse, many fat-burning supplements, weights, yoga mats and clothing. Some of these products have gotten her in court-level trouble in the past. February 2010 found Jillian in the midst of a lawsuit with lawyer Melissa Harnett over the effectiveness of Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control.
Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Fat Burner contained citrus aurantium, rumored to cause high blood pressure and heart troubles. Michaels was sued over this ingredient, too. In August of 2010, the Triple Process Total Body Detox and Cleanse went under fire in the amount of $10 million. A few of the ingredients were alleged to cause ulcers, digestive issues and potentially unfixable liver damage. (Turns out the detox might not be as cleansing as you think.)
When we say “celebrity trainer,” we not only mean he’s a celebrity for being a great personal trainer, but that he personally trains celebrities. Anyone you’ve ever heard of? How about a little-known talk show host named Oprah? Greene, 53, lives in Santa Barbara, California. He’s worth $1.4 million. He’s written 10 books, 2 of which were co-authored by Oprah Winfrey herself. He’s been on her show and written features for O Magazine and Oprah.com.
Bob Greene’s Total Body Makeover is his trademark DVD. Greene created the Best Life Diet and Fitness plan to help create a total life makeover for, well, the best life. Not to be outdone, he also has a Wii Game–Active Personal Trainer. Greene’s Twitter, @bestlifediet, boasts 1,096 tweets, 4,585 followers, and has 182 listed. He’s following just 25 accounts. We wonder how many celebrity diets he has done over his career.
Bob’s a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. Tony Little is actually a little bigger (pardon the pun) than both Michaels and Greene, at 5’6″. He’s 56 years old and is worth $200 million. Annually, Little’s infomercials run for more than 6,000 hours, earning him about $4 million globally each year. Little became a member of the Fitness Hall of Fame in 2006.He’s known for catchphrases like, “You can do it,” “It’s technique,” “Always believe in yourself,” and the catchy, “Conceive, Believe and Achieve.”
One of his trademark pieces of exercise equipment, Tony Little’s Gazelle Glider, was found by the FTC to make many unsubstantiated claims on its commercials. One such claim was that users could burn up to 1000 calories every hour using the equipment. Tony Little does not have a Twitter account.
Celebrity fitness trainer Bob Harper is the tallest trainer on the list, but still comes in below 6’0″ at 5’11”. He weighs 167 pounds and lives in Los Angeles. Harper is worth $2 million. He’s known for his role on The Biggest Loser, and caters to celebrity clients like Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ben Stiller, Selma Blair and Gwyneth Paltrow.
He has several fitness DVDs for fat burning and muscle building. His rugged beard and lean, muscley build led PETA to name him 2010’s Sexiest Vegetarian. Harper’s a lifestyle coach for Quaker Oats, and he doesn’t just advocate living a healthier life overall–he lives it. Harper works out for 90 minutes a day, 6 days a week. That’s 9 hours every week. @MyTrainerBob has 4,064 tweets, is following 302 Twitter users, and is followed by 217,792 users.
After telling everyone she would be back, this 43-year-old fitness trainer from Beverly Hills is back and better than ever. She’s worth about $10 million. Warner has two TV shows–Workout and Thintervention. She’s the spokeswoman for Fit in Your Skin, a health/wellness campaign for people suffering from psoriasis.
She’s got a couple DVDs under her belt, as well as a book called “This is Why You’re Fat (and How to Get Thin Forever).” As mentioned, she co-owns Sky Sport Spa with Jillian Michaels, and she’s been known to charge up to $400 for one training session. @jackiewarner10 has 384 tweets, is following 26 users and has 18,198 followers.
