Today’s #TipTuesday is all about conquering the T-rex. Some may know what T-rex we’re referring to, but the rest of you may be wondering, “What’s a T-rex and why aren’t we more terrified?”

In case you were one of those people, the kind of T-rex we’re talking about shows up in the two-handed kettlebell swing, not Jurassic Park.

According to Artemis Scantalides of Iron Body Studios, many people use improper form due to laziness when doing the two-handed kettlebell swing, which makes the people look like a T-rex — big and strong with stubby arms.

So, how can you avoid looking like a T-rex? Check out the video below for Artemis’s tips:

Now that you’ve seen Artemis’s wisdom in action, here’s a recap:

  • Sit back deeply on your hips – Sitting back deeply on your hips ensures that you can get full extension in your swing. Keep in mind that the goal is to see the whole kettlebell, not half of it, behind your legs as you swing back.
  • Carry the full extension in your arms – Sitting back deeply ensures that you can get full extension, but the trick is carrying that full extension through. Keep your arms extended all the way as you swing back behind your legs and then as you pull the swing back upwards.
  • Don’t get lazy – The most important factor in this exercise is perseverance. If you get lazy, you won’t follow your swing through properly, which, of course, leads to poor results. So keep reminding yourself to push through, and you’ll save yourself from looking like a T-rex.
