Bayer HealthCare and International Animal Health

International Animal Health has been researching and producing medicines and nutritional supplements for animals since 1919, when Bayer introduced Neguvon to fight against mange.  Since then, the Animal Health Division has developed many products to help in animals’ health care.

This part of Bayer HealthCare further divided its focus into two categories: domestic animals and livestock. Domestic animals, such as cats, dogs and horses, are an integral part of our lives and pet owners tend to want them to have as good health care as people do. Bayer HealthCare makes many products to keep your pets healthy. Advantage is a well known example, protecting cats and dogs against fleas.

The health of livestock has a big impact on your health if you're not a vegetarian. With this in mind, Bayer HealthCare develops medicines to prevent or cure diseases and kill parasites in livestock. They have specific products and advice for each of the following animals: ruminants (cattle, goats, sheep, etc.), pigs, bees, poultry and fish.

Bayer HealthCare and Bayer Schering Pharma

The Bayer Schering Pharma Division researches and develops new drugs and equipment to improve people's quality of life and help them live longer. It focuses on cardiology, oncology, women's health care and diagnostic imaging.

In the cardiology field, Bayer Schering Pharma works on developing ways to stop harmful blood clots from forming and dissolve ones that are already formed. Blood clots that break free from where they originated can be harmful or even fatal. It also is trying to create medications for common cardiac diseases, such as heart failure or atrial fibrillation, without the usual side effects of arrhythmias and very low blood pressure.

Bayer Schering Pharma is a pioneer in diagnostic imaging. It has assisted in the development of such tools as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which allows doctors to see clear images of specific organs. Currently, the scientists at Bayer Schering Pharma  are working on improving molecular imaging, which will help doctors catch signs of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases sooner so they can provide better treatment.

By trying to locate specific targets cancer cells feed from, Bayer Schering Pharma is attempting to determine how to stop cancer before it begins. Through this research, the scientists have found kinase inhibitors and antiangiogenic active substances stop cancer cells from feeding in some instances. Bayer Schering Pharma looks forward to improving oncology by replacing cancer patients' fear with hope in the future.

Bayer Schering Pharma has been making medicines for women's health since 1928, when it introduced the first drug for climacteric disorders, or, as it is know today, menopause. In 1933, it marketed the first preventative drug for miscarriages, and later it produced the first oral contraceptive. Recently, the company has made such popular products as Yaz and Mirena, and it hopes that continuing research will find more options for female contraception and menopausal therapies.

Bayer HealthCare and Medical Care

The Medical Care Division focuses on diabetes and creates ways for diabetics to live easier lives. In 1981, Bayer HealthCare introduced the first self-testing glucose meter. Bayer HealthCare Medical Care has strived to make better testing meters that are as uninvasive as possible and need very small amounts of blood to get quick test results.

Bayer's current line of glucose meters includes Contour, Contour TS, Contour Link, Contour USB, Breeze2 and Didget. Didget works with the Nintendo DS, hopefully reminding kids to check their glucose levels often.

Bayer HealthCare and Consumer Care

Probably the best known division, Consumer Care develops, manufactures and distributes over-the-counter medicines and works to make prescription drugs available without prescriptions. This part of Bayer HealthCare uses up-to-date research and the most advanced technology to improve their current brands and make new products to meet people's needs.

The marketing department of Consumer Care constantly looks for ways Bayer can improve its current product line. Once the marketing team makes its recommendations, scientists work hard to create products proven to work better and get them on the shelves as soon as possible. This is how such well-known brands as Aleve, One-A-Day vitamins and Bepanthol Ultra Protect Body Lotion were invented.

As of now, the Customer Care Division has 100 projects in the works to provide people with the best products science can discover.

Since the late nineteenth century, Bayer HealthCare has worked hard to provide its customers with the finest medical products possible. In doing so, it has become a world-renowned corporation that has earned numerous awards for its efforts. Bayer HealthCare plans on continuing to develop new and improved high-quality products to help people meet their own medical needs as well as the health needs of their pets and livestock.
