Garden of Life and Rubin Jordan

Rubin Jordan grew up with parents who believed in eating organically.  They raised him in an environment where healthy living was a lifestyle.

Rubin Jordan’s father was actually a student of naturopathic medicine. His parents eventually started their own natural food coop in Marietta, Georgia.

Rubin Jordan suffered a serious illness that caused him to lose a lot of weight from what appeared to be malnutrition. He began studying nutrition literature and consulted numerous traditional and alternative medicine experts.

Garden of Life and Probiotics

Rubin Jordan had tried probiotics when he was sick and seeking answers to his strange illness, but what his dad introduced him to was a different form of probiotics. These probiotics were fermented, and contained microorganisms found in nutrient rich soil. Jordan learned that our ancestors had consumed these nutrients for centuries.

It became apparent to Rubin Jordan that the key to nutritional health was in the basics.

A journalist wrote an alternative medicine article about Rubin’s story that sparked a barrage of responses. This intense interest from people who wanted to learn how to live a healthier lifestyle inspired Jordan to start Garden of Life.

The concept based on healthy digestion was the catalyst behind Garden of Life. The business led to a supplement line called Primal Defense, a Living Foods line, and 19 books.

The growth of whole foods in an organic environment was the basis behind Garden of Life Living Foods, which began in 2006. The following year, Garden of Life added a weight loss line, and continued to diversify from there.
