Tommy Kono the Legend

Tommy Kono is a two time Olympic champion, who holds 26 world records and seven Olympic records. Kono is a Mr. World winner and a three time Mr. Universe winner.

Kono is also a world renowned coach.  He has coached several other men into winning positions is the Olympics as well as other weightlifting and bodybuilding events.

Kono is an International Weightlifting Federation official, a published writer, a photographer, and designer of some of the most well used equipment in the weightlifting world.  In order to achieve all of these goals, Kono has had to work exceptionally hard.

Tommy Kono Products

Tommy Kono’s first product was the TK Knee Bands. These bands were initially something he designed for himself, but quickly became popular because of their effectiveness.

In addition to the TK Knee Bands, Tommy Kono also developed the TK Waist Band and Power Hooks. He also sells two books:

  • Weightlifting Olympic Style
  • Championship Weightlifting

Tommy Kono TK Knee Bands

This product started out as TK Knee Bands, however, when the product took off, the marketing director of Tommy’s company renamed them BH Knee Bands. Tommy recently changed the name back to TK Knee Bands because of the association with his name.

According to Tommy Kono, TK Knee Bands will provide the following workout benefits:

  • Support the knees
  • Warm the knees
  • Stabilize the knees and legs
  • Prolong your ability to weigh lift with problem knees

Tommy Kono claims that this product will lubricate your knees and make you feel as if you don’t have an injury at all.

Tommy Kono TK Waist Band

The TK Waist Band is, like most weightlifting belts, designed to provide back support and prevent muscle strain in the back.  According to Tommy, this waist band is different than other belts because it is thicker than other products out there.

The TK Waist Band is a one size fits all belt that will fit waist sizes of up to 60”.

Much like the knee bands, this band is supposed to create warmth in the back to help lubricate that area and keep it loose and limber as you exercise. In addition, the bands are recommended for cardiovascular workouts for support as well as for weightlifting.

Tommy Kono Power Hooks

Power Hooks is actually manufactured by Country Power, Inc. who also owns the patent and trademark for this product.  Power Hooks are recommended and sold by Tommy Kono as well.

Power Hooks are hooks that attach to your dumbbells. The hooks then hang on a barbell bar so that your dumbbells are perfectly placed for optimal lifting.

This prevents you from having to pick your dumbbells off of the floor before getting into position or placing them on the floor, which will change your position.

According to Country Power, Power Hooks actually allow you to lift more weight at one time because your body is already in optimal position and is ready to lift. When you pick up from the floor you are depending on your weaker muscles to move the weight, which means that you have to lift less.

Country Power claims that you will increase the amount that you are lifting by up to 30 pounds in just a couple of months; something that you cannot do by using other methods of working out.

Country Power also sells power hook straps, something that is not available from Tommy Kono, to make the lift more comfortable.

Tommy Kono and Weightlifting Olympic Style

In the Olympics certain lifts are a requirement. In the book Weightlifting Olympic Style, Tommy Kono teaches you how to do each of the lifts properly every time.

Tommy offers training tips and tips on how to focus and lift weights that you never thought were possible before.

Tommy Kono and Championship Weightlifting

The Championship Weightlifting book is meant to be a sequel to Weightlifting Olympic Style. In this book you will read about Tommy Kono’s health struggles that should have prevented him from becoming an Olympic Champion.

Championship Weightlifting covers the stress that you will face when training for the Olympics.  Kono outlines how to overcome those challenges to achieve your weightlifting and championship goals.

Tommy Kono Product Prices

The cost of Tommy’s products isn’t outrageous.  However, there are no scientific studies or medical research to show the benefits of using his products or to back up his claims. That is something to keep in mind.

Tommy Kono Website

If you are looking for a sleek website, then you are going to be in for a big surprise. Tommy Kono’s website looks like an eighth grader designed it. Everything is put on one very long webpage!

Instead of clean clear paragraphs describing their products, the website has old fashioned ads.  These ads look like they came right out of the 1950s, although closer examination shows the dates on them are recent.

There is also a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger shaking hands with Tommy Kono.  The tag that says that Arnold is a big fan of Tommy’s and was proud to meet him. Although the photo is real, it looks like a fake, so it’s giving the wrong impression.

The good news is that if you want to order products from Tommy Kono, payments go through PayPal.  You don’t have to worry about giving sensitive credit or debit card information.
