- Step 1: Place the kayak on the edge of the water get in the kayak and push yourself out into the water.
- Step 2: Dip one side of the paddle into the water towards the front of the kayak and drag the paddle through the water towards the back of the boat. Then do the same with the other side.
- Step 3: As you paddle use your entire upper body. Rotate at the waist using your core as well as your shoulders and arms to row.
- Step 4: If you are kayaking in a river sometimes you will need to use the paddle to steer. You do this by leaving one end of the paddle in the water and using it as a rudder.
- Step 5: Keep a firm grip on the paddle as you steer and keep your core strong.
