You may also have a loss of taste or smell.

Side effects from taking zinc gluconate may include nausea, metallic taste, vomiting, and diarrhea. You may experience a stinging, burning, tingling, or itching if zinc gluconate is applied directly to your skin. Use caution if you have open wounds or burns.

Zinc can be toxic in large doses. Symptom can include vomiting, dizziness, chest pain, and breathing difficulties.
