NO2

NO2

Build Muscle / Gain Weight

NO2 is technically nitrogen dioxide. However, in the supplement community, somehow NO2 translates into nitric oxide products, which is good because nitrogen dioxide is a poisonous gas and cannot be taken in supplement form!

Why some supplement companies bill their nitric oxide products as NO2 is unknown, it is most likely that NO2 isn’t meant to represent the chemical formula but is simply meant to represent the next step in NO such as part 2. This is just a guess on our part, but we simply wanted to clarify so that you know what we are talking about when we say NO2, which is nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide is a derivative of L-arginine and is a free form gas. Nitric oxide is created when L-arginine enters into the arteries of the heart; nitric oxide is formed which then causes the arteries to expand, which provides better blood flow through the heart.

Not all types of physical activity are suitable for everyone. Users take training advice at their own personal risk.

NO2 in the Body

As you can imagine, nitric oxide is an important element in the human body. Without it the blood vessels would constrict and it would increase the chances of blood clots throughout the body.

In the weightlifting community the assumption is made that having extra nitric oxide in the body will lead to faster blood flow and faster dissemination of nutrients throughout the body. Some supplement companies even make the claim that nitric oxide will lead to larger pumps and faster muscle development.

NO2 Benefits

L-arginine, which is where nitric oxide comes from, is an amino acid. Amino acids benefit the body in numerous ways but L-arginine is know for its benefit for normal body function and healing.

You can get L-arginine from:

  • Pork
  • Poultry
  • Dairy
  • Nuts
  • Soy
  • Chocolate
  • Seafood

Now, what happens in the supplement community is that some of the benefits of L-arginine are directly associated with any derivative of L-arginine, in this case nitric oxide.

The problem here is that once NO is created, it does its own thing in the human body. Yes, it aids in circulation but its primary roll is to communicate information between cells.

When it comes to products with the NO2 moniker, you will find that some of the claimed benefits include:

  • Increase lean muscle mass
  • Decrease recovery time between workouts and injuries
  • Increase libido
  • Increase strength
  • Increase endurance
  • Increase blood flow
  • Increases HGH production
  • Helps you sleep
  • Increases absorption of nutrients

Now, here is the problem with these claims, not a single one of them are backed up with clinical trials, not even the small trials that some companies conduct so that they can claim that there is scientific evidence backing up their claims.

This makes it difficult to determine whether NO2 products really do what they claim or if they are simply making their claims based on the fact that it is a derivative of another potent chemical in the human body. Indeed, all the anecdotal claims may be true, but at this time there is no clinical proof.

NO2 Side Effects

Because of the lack of research on NO2 products, it is difficult to determine what the side effects of these products will be. Some people who take NO2 products experience diarrhea and nausea as well as migraines.

However, there are some common side effects from taking nitric oxide products that can easily be translated to NO2 products since the base ingredients are the same. These side effects include:

  • Sweating
  • Increased heart rate
  • Migraines
  • Nausea
  • Collapse
  • Dry mouth
  • Skin irritation
  • Itching
  • Asthma attacks
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Low blood pressure (which can lead to death because of sudden drop)

It is possible to overdose on NO products so you should never go off label and you should reduce your use or quit using NO2 products if you experience one or more of the side effects mentioned above.

NO2 is designed specifically for men, so women should not take NO2 products. If you choose to take NO2 products, you should discontinue use if you plan on becoming pregnant, are pregnant or are nursing.

If you have any medical conditions or are taking any medication, you should talk to your doctor before taking any NO2 products to ensure that nitric oxide or L-arginine products won’t interfere with your medication or health.

NO2 Dosing

The dosing for NO2 products vary depending on what you buy. For example, if you choose a powder supplement for drinks the recommendation is that you mix 2 scoops with 10 to 12 oz of water or milk twice a day.

Other products have different dosing suggestions for different uses. For example, one product says to take 3 caplets 2 times a day with water for use as a dietary supplement. However, if you are into weight training you should take 8 caplets a day if you are under 200 pounds and 10 caplets a day if you weigh over 200 pounds. NO2 products also come with a warning that it is not for use for people under the age of 18.
