bench straddle hop is a calisthenics and plyometrics exercise that primarily targets the quads and to a lesser degree also targets the calves, glutes, groin, hamstrings, hip flexors and shoulders.

The only bench straddle hop equipment that you really need is the following: box and flat bench. There are however many different bench straddle hop variations that you can try out that may require different types of bench straddle hop equipment or may even require no equipment at all.

  1. Be sure both feet have plenty of room to fit side-by-side on the bench when hopping up.
  2. Make sure there is a clearing around the bench in case you lose your balance when hopping up.
  3. Be sure to swing your arms up as you jump to give yourself momentum and explode off the ground.
  4. Try to land softly on the bench with knees bent.

Variations

  1. Drop down into a squat so that your butt touches the bench before jumping up off the ground.
  2. Perform with a weighted vest to increase resistance/difficulty.
  3. Perform side hops over a bench or another object.
