How Do Apple Pay and Google Pay Work?

Posted by Support Team on July 10, 2025 — Updated on July 10, 2025

You may notice differences in the available payment method options when viewing Checkout pages from different devices or roles. This article explains how Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported and displayed within the Exercise.com for Business platform.

Apple Pay and Google Pay Overview

Apple Pay and Google Pay are digital wallets that appear dynamically based on the browser and device being used. They are not enabled or disabled within the Exercise.com platform manually. Instead, whether these options appear depends entirely on the user’s environment.

When Will Apple Pay or Google Pay Appear?

Payment MethodAppears OnBrowser SupportDevice Requirements
Apple PaySafariāœ… Safari onlymacOS or iOS with Apple Wallet configured
Google PayChromeāœ… Chrome onlyAndroid or desktop with Google Pay set up

āš ļø Only one wallet (Apple Pay or Google Pay) will be shown at a time depending on the browser. They will never appear together.

Why Trainers and Clients May See Different Payment Options

When a viewing the Checkout page, these additional payment method options can be available based on the current device and browser – it is not specific to one account.
For example:

  • A customer using Chrome on a Windows PC will see Google Pay, but not Apple Pay.
  • Another customer using Safari on an iPhone will see Apple Pay, assuming it is configured on the device.

This is expected behavior and cannot be overridden from the platform.

Duplicate Default Payment Methods with Apple Pay

In some cases, when a client already has a default payment method saved and completes a transaction using Apple Pay, it may result in two identical default cards being displayed.

This can happen because Apple Pay may tokenize the same card in a new way, leading the platform to interpret it as a new method.

āœ… Temporary Solution: One of the duplicate default cards can be safely deleted.

Summary

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay are shown based on the current user’s browser and device, not their role (trainer vs. client).
  • This is why trainers and clients may not see the same options when accessing the same account.
  • Only one digital wallet option will be shown at a time depending on compatibility.
  • Duplicated payment methods due to Apple Pay can be resolved by removing one.
