All Eyes on Pippa Middleton: How She Stays Royally Fit

Kate Middleton wasn't the only girl people were staring at during the royal wedding. Little sister, Pippa, also got some attention. What does she do to look so amazing?

Kate Middleton, or more appropriately, the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t the only girl the world had eyes on during the royal wedding last April. Another Middleton had a piece of the spotlight as well. Maid of Honor, Pippa Middleton, caught the attention of many photographers with her near perfect body in a white floor length Alexander McQueen dress. What does she do to look so fit? Read on to find out how one of the world’s most eligible bachelorettes is becoming royalty in her own right.

Pilates

Pippa is one busy bee! Her job as a party planner keeps her on her toes, but she manages to do one thing she loves very much frequently and that’s Pilates. In an interview with OK magazine she says, “As someone who is always ‘on the go’, Pilates has been a wonderful escape from my busy lifestyle in London. Whether it’s 7 a.m. in the morning or 7 p.m. at night I always leave feeling calm, refreshed and invigorated.” In addition to the mental benefits of Pilates, the exercise is also fantastic for building a strong core and toning up your arms and legs.

Pilates is a great workout for everyone; women AND men! Despite popular belief, Pilates is not a female exclusive exercise. Professional football player, Donovan McNabb said on national television that he prepared for his games with Pilates. The exercise improved his core strength and flexibility which helped reduced his chance of injuries. Pilates is also great for a smaller mid-section. According to Men’s Health magazine, Pilates works your transversus abdominis muscle for a smaller waist and your rectus abdominis muscle for bigger abs.

Field Hockey

Like Kate, Pippa also plays field hockey, a high intensity sport similar in some ways to soccer. Players run all over an open field attempting to score goals using sticks and hitting and pushing opposing team members along the way. The sport is physically demanding and requires strength, endurance and quick reflexes.

Ice Skating

When field hockey season is over, Pippa does not cease working out during the winter. Killing two birds with one stone, Pippa combines her workouts with her social life by ice skating with friends. Like Pilates, ice skating is great for building core strength and improving one’s balance. It is also a great way to burn calories! A 120lb can burn over 300 calories per hour ice skating. The cardiovascular workout requires a lot of endurance to make spinning across the ice look effortless.

No Carb Diet

In addition to her workouts, Pippa has a strict carb-free diet that keeps her looking camera ready. For most of us, refraining from carbs is very difficult. Not being able to eat toast, pasta, cereal, cake or breadsticks is no easy task. Following the carb-free diet requires plenty of will power and creativity. For instance, many followers substitute sandwich bread with lettuce or pasta with spaghetti squash. Carbs are typically the body’s main source of fuel and when unavailable, the body goes into a state called ketosis where fat is burned for fuel. Other celebrities like Kelly Osbourne also cut carbs from their diet.

The Bottom Line

Pippa looked amazing at her sister’s wedding and her figure and beauty catapulted her to instant celebrity status. Her workouts are simple enough to pick up and follow in order to get in shape fast.

In a Nut Shell

Pros: Pippa does a combination of exercises that help her stay fit. Ice skating and field hockey builds her endurance while Pilates keeps her strong. Pippa largely credits her strong core to Pilates. If you’re new to the exercise, don’t be intimidated. Some people think that you have to be very flexible and have a strong back to begin. The fact is, practically anyone with any body type can begin Pilates. Try this great beginner exercise to get started

Cons: The only downsides to Pippa’s great diet and exercise plan are the side effects of a carb-free diet. While avoiding carbs can help you lose weight, it may leave you weak, tired or moody. One of the lesser known and perhaps most embarrassing side effects is halitosis also known as bad breath. This is because as the body burns fat, certain chemicals are released in the breath which causes it to smell bad, according to WebMD.
