Mostly known for her pipes on the hit show, Glee, Lea Michele is now also known for her lean figure. How did she lose weight so fast?
Lea Michele, who plays Rachel Berry on the smash Fox hit Glee, is best known for her amazing singing voice but her amazing figure is also garnering her some attention.
This season, and in her red carpet appearances off screen, she has transformed from a nerdy girl next door to the latest Hollywood It girl.
Her sexy transformation has also garnered her some risqué spreads in magazines like Rolling Stone, GQ and more - proudly displaying her svelter, sexier physique!

No meat, please!
When Lea is not working 70+ hour work weeks on Glee, she is a spokesperson for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She believes in animal rights and is a vegan.
Not only does she not eat meat, but she also skips out on animal by-products including milk and cheese. Being vegan makes her feel good - and she credits it with her ability to portray the annoyingly perky Rachel character that we all love.
She knows she needs to obtain certain vitamins and minerals that are traditionally found in animal products such as protein, iron, zinc, calcium and vitamin B-12. Being deficient in vitamin B-12, for instance, may cause anemia, fatigue and neurological symptoms such as numbness of the hands and feet.
Lea takes supplements and vitamin B-12 injections to get the nutrients that are lacking in her diet. Fortunately, Lea's not alone in her restrictive diet - fellow cast mates, Dianna Aragon is also a vegan and Jenna Ushkowitz is a vegetarian.
No Sugar High
You would think that with Lea’s spunky personality and busy work schedule she would be loaded up on sugar and caffeine- and you'd be wrong. She limits her caffeine intake to a cup a day and prefers healthy snacks to sugary treats.
While morning mochas may give you the jolt of energy you need to get you going, having it throughout the day can be too much of a good thing. According to the Mayo Clinic, over 300 mg of caffeine may cause insomnia, nervousness, irritability, gastrointestinal problems or irregular heartbeats.
Lea relies on healthy snacks such as fruits, nuts and vegetables to give her a boost when her energy is lagging. These kinds of treats not only boost your energy, but also rev up your metabolism to help you lose weight and they help you feel full in between meals.
Hot Yoga = Hot Body
Some people simply enjoy going to their local gym or recreational center to practice yoga while others, including Lea, prefer it in a special 105°F room with 40% humidity.
Known as Bikram yoga or “hot yoga,” this special yoga involves 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises and a lot of sweat! Lea finds this type of yoga to be a calming art that helps her enhance her cardio endurance which she needs for her dance numbers on the show. It also helps her relieve stress from her hectic lifestyle.
Bikram yoga is not your typical yoga class. The heat is extreme - be sure to bring plenty of water if you decide to try this.
The Bottom Line
Lea’s character in Glee is hard core - not too far of a stretch from the real Lea. Deciding to give up eating meat, milk products, sugar and caffeine is not an easy task. It takes a lot of discipline to avoid items found in what makes up most normal diets, but the good results show!

Cons: You cannot wake up one day and stop eating sweets and meat, cold turkey (no pun intended). Eliminating these abundant food items in your life takes time. There is also an adjustment period that your body must go through to get used to what is no longer coming in. If you choose to live an animal-free life like Lea, be sure to consult a dietician or health care provider to ensure you are getting the proper nutrients in your body.
Bikram Yoga isn't for everyone. If you can't imagine yourself doing this kind of extremely heated exercise, try high intensity interval training as an alternative. Hop on a treadmill and do short running bursts to get your heart rate going and to burn calories fast.
