DVD workouts are popular among men and women alike because they have the potential to keep you more motivated than training on your own. Here are five of the best tips for making exercise DVD workouts more effective.

Choose Wisely

Pick a workout that suits your interests. You should have fun working out – it shouldn’t be seen as a chore. There are so many workout DVDs to choose from that you don’t have any excuse for not selecting one that you like. After all, if you’re interested in the subject matter, you’re more likely to stick to it.

Add Variety

Choose more than one DVD. If you have one DVD for Pilates, one for kickboxing and one for strength training, you’ve got a way to work stretching, cardio and muscle building into your workout. One of the best tips for making exercise DVD workouts more effective is to watch a different DVD each day and vary their order. You might do Pilates and kickboxing on Monday, Pilates and muscle training on Tuesday, and kickboxing and muscle training on Wednesday.

Make Space

Make room for your workout. You’re more likely to perform your DVD workouts each day if your space is already allocated. You don’t want to move the couch, the coffee table and the cat bed back and forth every day to work out. Try to make the space more permanent; if you can’t, move the items in the morning so they’re ready for you when you need them, and you won’t be dreading the task of moving them. Pick equipment that matches the video. You don’t have to buy top of the line equipment like they do for the workout DVD, but try to match the exercise accessories as much as possible. Slow Down

Pause the video and perform the exercise. It won’t do you any good to keep lifting your head and contorting your body to check the TV. Keep the remote handy so you can pause and play.
